Best Comic Strip

Nominate your choice for Best Comic Strip. Eligible strips should appear online and/or be the subject of a blog by the strip author/

NOMINATIONS ARE CLOSED FOR ALL CATEGORIES EXCEPT THE FOLLOWING:

Best Large Blog
Best Mid Major Blog
Best Mid Minor Blog
Best Small Major Blog

To nominate a blog you need to leave a comment on this entry. Your comment should contain the name of the blog, the main URL for the blog, and (if possible) the URL for a RSS/Atom feed. For example:

Wizbang
http://wizbangblog.com/
http://feeds.wizbangblog.com/Wizbang

Unless you login via one of the supported authentication services (Typekey, WordPress, OpenID, Yahoo, AIM, etc.) your comment will not be published immediately. Unauthenticated comments are placed in a moderation queue. Due to the volume of comments, it may take up to 24 hours for your comment to be approved. Comments from authenticated users will be published immediately.

Every so often our spam fighting service flags an authenticated comment as spam. If put more than 10 URL's in a comment it will set off the junk filter. If your comment doesn't immediately appear that's probably what happened. We review and "unjunk" these comments as we are approving unauthenticated comments. We're sorry for the inconvenience.

Rules And FAQ's

  • You can nominate yourself, don't be shy.
  • The number of nominations a blog receives is irrelevant. One nomination is enough...
  • Rather than add a "me too" nomination for a site you're encouraged to use the "+" icon to indicate your preference for nominees. The "+" ratings are one extra piece of information the finalist selection panel can use to help generate the finalist slates in each category.
  • Given the two previous items, we reserve the right to remove excessive comments (i.e. nominations) for the same site.
  • The nomination period is scheduled to end on Wednesday, November 19, 2008.
  • The nomination period has been extended to Friday, November 21, 2008.
  • Voting for selected finalists is scheduled to begin December 8, 2008. Finalists will be announced several days before voting begins.
  • Read The Nomination FAQ
  • Get Weblog Award logos to post on your site. Link to the nomination index or your favored category
  • Get technical help or ask questions at The Weblog Awards Forum
  • If you are linking to the contest consider using the nomination category archive, as it contains links to all of the nomination posts.

Questionable Content. Hands-down my favorite on-line or off comic.

I'd like to nominate Town Called Dobson.

Other blogs like Bilerico Project (http://www.bilerico.com) have started carrying the strip too as it's gained popularity, but TCD has it's own blog that should be recognized.

I nominate.... GUNNERKRIGG COURT!

First, I exempt myself from this contest so there is question of conflict of interest.

Second, have you thought this through? You are looking for blogs by people who write about their own comics? Most such blogs are personal filler or ad keyword bundles, not serious blogs, because no one wants to look narcissistic.

Meanwhile, the uncompensated webcomics news blogs are excluded. Here is a list:
http://webcomicbloglist.synthasite.com/index.php

I exempt myself from most contests because of shaky rules and sample sizes, so even if you included the deserving category instead of this silly category, I'd opt out. There are deserving people who deserve a shot, but what you have here is people voting for their favorite comic without regard to your organization's interest in blog promotion.

Webcomics already suffer from a flood of awards, many of questionable legitimacy. These awards create distortion of quality perception, ad value and artistic merit -- in other words, they do harm. Next year, why not speak to some informed people about webcomics before launching a dubious comics category. Not me, as I will tell you not to hold contests and why, but I'll be glad to refer you to tolerant experts.

Thanks for reading an alternative point of view.

Best,
Bengo

www.TunaCarpaccioPI.com!! Yay!

1) Nobody is voting for anything yet. These are nominations.

2) Who, exactly, is being excluded? These are open nominations. If some one deserving, nominate them.

3) Look at last year's finalists - http://2007.weblogawards.org/polls/best-comic-strip-1.php are none of them deserving?

4) This is not the first year for this category. We've done fine in the past and will do so again this year without "experts"...
